Sunday, May 9th, 8pm: B.B. King @ The Florida Theatre

His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. Yet B.B. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 84, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on B.B., other than to make him more popular, more cherished, more relevant than ever. Don't look for him in some kind of semi-retirement; look for him out on the road, playing for people, popping up in a myriad of T.V. commercials, or laying down tracks for his next album. B.B. King is as alive as the music he plays, and a grateful world can't get enough of him.

Saturday, May 1st , 8pm- Flogging Molly @ The Florida Theatre

Founded in Los Angeles in 1997 by the expatriate Dave King (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar), Flogging Molly got its start and its name from a local bar called Molly Malone's where the band played and grew and laid down the blueprint for its eventual success. As every member of Flogging Molly will emphatically explain, there were no predetermined expectations for the band's sound. From night to night playing to a packed house at Molly Malone's, the sound evolved organically. Traditional Celtic instruments like violin, mandolin and accordion blended seamlessly with grinding guitars and pounding drums. Without consciously attempting it, Flogging Molly merged the music of King's childhood in Dublin with the music of his adulthood in L.A.

Thursday, April 29th, 8pm - Ben Harper and Relentless7 @ The Florida Theatre

In a hostile sea of disposable, throwaway music, BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7 have made a true album. White Lies For Dark Times is a timeless rock record, with a
cohesive collection of music that is as raw, unrelenting and thunderous, as it is arrestingly haunting and emotional.

BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7 intelligently has one foot in Harper’s past while
every other limb and appendage reach towards the future. Any preconceptions or
misconceptions in regards to a “Ben Harper sound” must now be adjusted, or thrown out
all together. With BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7, the story of modern rock
music is now being rewritten.

Tuesday, April 27th, 8pm - Elvis Costello and the Sugarcanes @ The Florida Theatre

When Elvis Costello's first record was released in 1977, his bristling cynicism and anger linked him with the punk and new wave explosion. A cursory listen to My Aim Is True proves that the main connection that Costello had with the punks was his unbridled passion; he tore through rock's back pages taking whatever he wanted, as well as borrowing from country, Tin Pan Alley pop, reggae, and many other musical genres. Over his career, that musical eclecticism distinguished Costello's records as much as his fiercely literate lyrics. Because he supported his lyrics with his richly diverse music, Costello emerged as one of the most innovative, influential, and best songwriters since Bob Dylan.

Wednesday, April 21st, 7:30pm: Ritz Chamber Players: Spring Concert

Energy, enthusiasm and wind power! These words sum up the lively spring concert that includes the Mozart Quartet in F Major for oboe and strings. Mozart wrote beautifully for woodwinds and his music for winds - which includes numerous serenades, divertimentos and other works - was much admired by the young Beethoven. Mozart gives the oboist ample opportunity for virtuoso display while the strings merely accompany it, but there are also many passages of true ensemble playing where the melodic line moves easily between oboist and strings. This not-to-be-missed program includes the Jacksonville premiere of a fresh and modern string quartet by this season’s composer-in-residence, James Lee, III.
