The advanced JSYO ensembles play side-by-side with the musicians of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

The Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra’s annual Major/Minor concert is the season finale of the Publix Super Markets Charities Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra Series, featuring the advanced JSYO ensembles with the musicians of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. The winners of the JSYO Young Artists Competition -- Allison Watkins, flute; Sam Casseday, bass; and Orlando Diaz, piano -- will also take center stage in solo performances with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. The beginning and intermediate students will perform a Festival of Strings at 6:45 p.m., playing side-by-side with the "big kids" in the JSYO Philharmonic.

The Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra assembles the most talented young musicians from all over the First Coast into one of the finest youth orchestra programs in the region. The JSYO offers comprehensive orchestral training to more than 200 students ranging from first grade through early college, comprising six ensembles, and led by a team of professional conductors and coaches.

Toubab Krewe is an American instrumental band which fuses the music of Mali with American musical styles (particularly those of the Southern United States). The group's instrumentation includes kora (21-string harp-lute), kamelengoni (12-string harp-lute), soku (Malian horsehair fiddle), two electric guitars, electric bass guitar, drum set, and African percussion. The group, which is based in Asheville, North Carolina, was founded in early 2005 and has traveled to West Africa several times, working with local musicians. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2005, which was recorded by Steven Heller at Upstream Records in Asheville, North Carolina. The band is currently "finishing up" their second album.

Founded in Los Angeles in 1997 by the expatriate Dave King (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar), Flogging Molly got its start and its name from a local bar called Molly Malone's where the band played and grew and laid down the blueprint for its eventual success. As every member of Flogging Molly will emphatically explain, there were no predetermined expectations for the band's sound. From night to night playing to a packed house at Molly Malone's, the sound evolved organically. Traditional Celtic instruments like violin, mandolin and accordion blended seamlessly with grinding guitars and pounding drums. Without consciously attempting it, Flogging Molly merged the music of King's childhood in Dublin with the music of his adulthood in L.A.

Tales of Our City is an annual tour of Evergreen Cemetery featuring entertaining stories of Jacksonville history. The tour is presented by the Port of Jacksonville and Orange Park Pilot Clubs. Proceeds from the tour will benefit the Jericho School, the Clay County Council on Aging and other community service projects of the two clubs.

Visitors to the tour are requested to use the cemetery Main Gate entrance.

Tours run continuously from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and last approximately two hours.

Aside from the interesting tales, you’ll also be dazzled by the beauty of Evergreen Cemetery’s spectacular grounds, with its Arboretum-like setting. Visitors to the tour are requested to use the Main Gate entrance at Evergreen Cemetery, located at 4535 N. Energy, enthusiasm and wind power! These words sum up the lively spring concert that includes the Mozart Quartet in F Major for oboe and strings. Mozart wrote beautifully for woodwinds and his music for winds - which includes numerous serenades, divertimentos and other works - was much admired by the young Beethoven. Mozart gives the oboist ample opportunity for virtuoso display while the strings merely accompany it, but there are also many passages of true ensemble playing where the melodic line moves easily between oboist and strings. This not-to-be-missed program includes the Jacksonville premiere of a fresh and modern string quartet by this season’s composer-in-residence, James Lee, III.

As a principal cast member on Fox’s hit sketch comedy show Mad TV, Aries brought a fresh, hip style to the already-edgy program from the third through the tenth season. The producers made full use of many of Aries’s talents by calling on him frequently to create new hilarious characters and write sketches. Astrophysicist, author and visionary Neil deGrasse Tyson has written nine books, including his two latest books “Death By Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries,” which was a New York Times bestseller, and “The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America’s Favorite Planet,” chronicling his experience at the center of the controversy over Pluto’s planetary status.

Tyson is the recipient of nine honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal. His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid 13123 Tyson. Tyson was also voted Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive by People Magazine in 2000.

Dressage is a French term meaning "training". Dressage requires the horse and rider to combine the strength and ability of gymnastics with the elegance and beauty of ballet. It may look effortless, but truly it is the result from years of training. To guide a horse through a series of complex maneuvers by slight movements of the rider's hands, legs, and weight require extreme coordination of the riders muscle's.

The film tells a gripping tale of microbes, medicine and money as well as exposes thehidden story of Lyme disease, one of the most controversial and fastest growing epidemics of our time.

An open question-and-answer session will follow the film, with Mandy Hughes, one of the film’s featured subjects, and Dr. Kerry Clark, a public health research professor in UNF’s Brooks College of Health.

The College of Fine Arts at Jacksonville University presents a production of Chess, a new musical which involves a romantic triangle between two top players, an American and a Russian, in a world chess championship, and a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other; all in the context of a Cold War struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union, during which both countries wanted to win international chess tournaments for propaganda purposes.
